A private stay
framed by Mount Yotei.
This page presents a design concept for design and commercial discussion. Renderings, drawings, dimensions and specifications are conceptual. They do not represent a completed building, certification or regulatory compliance.
Luxury in restraint.
A compact 12 m × 3.5 m module combines edited materials, warm layered light and winter views toward Mount Yotei. The landscape remains the protagonist, while the interior offers the poise and privacy of a boutique hotel.
The concept is suited to one-key private hospitality, owner use or a small boutique accommodation cluster.

Concept-level information only. Dimensions and external works require site, statutory, structural and services coordination.
Architecture for the snow
The concept uses a steep mono-pitch roof rising to the entry side, with deep eaves, dark standing-seam metal and snow guards.
Exterior palette
Cream stone-tone cladding, fluted dark walnut, dark-bronze frames, standing-seam metal roofing, timber deck and restrained brass lighting.
Final pitch, snow and wind actions, drainage, ice formation, falling-snow safety and member sizing must be engineered for the exact site.
The private suite experience
A continuous sequence from bedroom to lounge to deck makes winter scenery the focus. Purpose-built storage, smoked glass, layered lighting and carefully selected furniture support comfort and privacy within the compact plan.
Stone
Ivory travertine and deep green stone provide cool, tactile contrast.Wood
Dark walnut brings warmth, rhythm and tailored storage.Light
Brass pendants and soft indirect light shape the evening mood.Rather than logos or imitation motifs, the atmosphere is created through the precision of stone, metal, timber, proportion and light.
Key finishes: ivory travertine / cream limestone; deep green veined stone; fluted dark walnut; antique brass; smoked glass; tobacco leather; ivory linen; muted emerald.
A compact, ordered plan.
The plan connects entry bath, wardrobe, bedroom, lounge, dining and private deck in a linear sequence. Furniture and storage are tailored to the module, with the deck and mountain view placed at the end of the sightline.
Outdoor program (concept)
- Private deck: 4.2 m × 4.8 m
- BBQ / sink / storage counter: 2.4 m
- One-car carport: 3.3 m × 6.0 m
The drawing shown is a concept diagram, not a permit or construction drawing.
Outdoor living
through the seasons
The deck is planned with a stone-look counter, integrated BBQ, sink, storage and dining for four. Winter operation requires detailed coordination of clearance routes, slip resistance, freeze protection and protection of utilities for the selected equipment and operating plan.
- Dedicated snow-clearance route
- Non-slip deck finish and edge protection
- Freeze-protected services where installed
- Snow management plan for roof and deck perimeter
Final design is subject to site-specific safety review.
A high-performance
cold-climate envelope
A high-performance envelope is a continuous system, not a single product. The concept brings together insulation appropriate to the region and assembly, insulated frames and glazing, an airtight layer, a vapour-breathable weather-resistive barrier, a ventilated cavity and thermal-bridge reduction details.
01 Heat
Continuous insulation and reduced thermal-bridge risk must be addressed at floor, wall, roof, opening and deck interfaces.02 Air + moisture
Airtight layer, vapour-breathable weather-resistive layer, ventilated cavity and interior vapour strategy require coordination as one wall system.03 Openings
Frames and insulated glazing require verified product performance for the final climatic and operational context.Performance targeting
Material ratings and tested values should be verified at procurement. Window and doorset thermal performance may be evaluated through test and calculation methods referred to by JIS A 4710 and JIS A 2102; relevant product categories include JIS A 4702:2021 doorsets and JIS A 4706:2021 windows. [3]
Design principle only. Condensation risk, hygrothermal behaviour, air-tightness targets and complete assemblies require project-specific analysis and consultant sign-off.
Digital design and factory quality.
Using BIM and DfMA from concept stage helps coordinate structure, envelope, services, joinery, transport and site interfaces. Factory production prioritises quality control, moisture and storage management, opening and weathering details, and transport and installation planning.
Recommended system review
3D installation verification; airtight-layer continuity checks; infrared or equivalent quality review; indoor-environment sensors; heat-pump HVAC; and heat-recovery ventilation. Equipment and methods must be selected by qualified professionals against detailed design, cost, maintenance support and regulation.
- BIM
- Building Information Modeling: digital coordination of design, quantity and construction information.
- DfMA
- Design for Manufacture and Assembly: design optimisation for factory manufacture and site assembly.
- Heat-recovery ventilation
- Ventilation that recovers heat from exhaust air.
- Thermal bridge
- A junction where insulation continuity is interrupted.
- Vapour-breathable weather-resistive barrier
- A layer that resists liquid water while supporting intended wall drying.
Relevant JIS framework
Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) are national standards that address criteria for quality, performance and test methods for products, data and services. [1] This section identifies representative standards relevant to the concept. It does not claim certification, compliance or an exhaustive list of JIS.
| Category | Representative JIS | Role in this concept |
|---|---|---|
| Insulation | JIS A 9521; A 9501 | Building insulation materials and thermal-insulation work framework. [2] [4] |
| Openings | JIS A 4702:2021; A 4706:2021 | Doorsets and windows; use current manufacturer performance data. [3] |
| Thermal methods | JIS A 4710; A 2102 | Test and calculation methods for thermal performance of windows and doorsets. [3] |
| Glazing | JIS R 3209 | Insulating-glass selection framework. [2] |
| Weathering | JIS A 6008; A 6111; A 5758 | Roofing membranes, vapour-breathable underlays and sealants. [2] [4] |
| Materials | JIS A 5422; A 5559 | Potential exterior-board and timber-fixing framework where adopted. [4] |
Important. JIS references support procurement and performance specification. They do not replace the Building Standards Act, local jurisdiction requirements, snow-load design, fire strategy, energy requirements, approvals, engineering or inspection. Standards and editions must be confirmed at detailed-design and procurement stages.
